NAVUA KEEPS WINNING RECORD

-

THE Navua football side continued its unbeaten run and successfully retained the senior division title of the 2019 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Sunday after beating Nadroga 1-0 in the final.

Navua has created their own history after its unbeaten record from 30 matches they played from the past IDC.

Nadroga and Navua gave a good show but it was Alfred Ali’s 82nd minute goal that gave the southerners the victory.

Ali, who is the younger sibling of former Navua and national defender Siga Ali connected beautifully with a long Netani Doli free-kick and slammed the ball into the back of the net giving Nadroga goalkeeper Sakeo Taganeca no chance at all.

After a goal-less first half, the teams picked up the pace after the break.

Navua was awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute but captain Vineet Chand’s penalty was brilliantly saved by Taganeca.

Jonas Naceva and Tomasi Tuicakau missed a couple of good sitters in front of goal before Navua scored its winner from the set-piece.

Navua bagged $7500 while Nadroga received $2500. The side will join the premier division in the new football session.
