Destined for greatness

-

SIX years after his first hit single Toso Mai Noqu Lewa went viral on radio, Bill Cokanauto is still pinching himself.

The founder and leader of popular iTaukei group Kula Kei Uluivuya, better known as KKU, is on his Raijieli Tour and performing in front of 500 screaming fans at every performance.

The Australia-New Zealand tour will see KKU pumping out his hits — Raijieli, Asinate, Tagimoucia and Noqu Senikau — with seven shows in six cities.

“I am so over the moon,” said Cokanauto, speaking to The Fiji Times

from Brisbane, Australia.

“I’m still buzzing from the first leg of the tour, I never expected the crowd to be so into my music and I want to thank the man who has been behind my overseas tours, DJ Peter Gunz.

“It’s an amazing feeling to know that someone as big as he is in the Australian music industry believes in me and my music.”

From the moment Toso Mai Noqu Lewa recorded with Jone Nakasamai and released in 2013, KKU was destined for music greatness.

The group, led by Cokanauto, had managed to marry catchy melodies with poppy lyrics and a pounding beat

— the recipe for musical success.

After the success of Toso

Mai Noqu Lewa, KKU followed up with quite possibly his biggest hit to date, Tagimoucia.

KKU has not forgotten his roots and the struggles it took to achieve success.

To assist up-and-coming artists achieve their music dreams, he established the Taki Mai Kava Music Events.

“KKU began around the kava bowl, so these events are for all the musicians who need a platform or a launching pad for their careers.

“I know what it’s like to start and no one there to give you a chance and I don’t want any group to go through what I went through.”

KKU’s next Kava Music event will feature Waidrodro Malua Kei Lakeba on November 15 at the Vineyard, Suva.
