School tests students’ athleticism
MORE than 500 students participated in the Kalabu Primary School interhouse competition on Friday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
The school will not be part of the Fiji primary schools athletics zonal and national finals because of financial constraints.
Yesterday’s competition was for the students to enjoy the day and show their athleticism.
Meet manager Filimoni Ligamatau said the interhouse competition highlighted the importance of healthy living in the community.
“Even though it is a busy term for us because of exams, we are trying to bring out the students to enjoy a fun day with their parents and friends,” LIgamatau said.
“This is not just for the students, but for everyone within the school including parents.
“Our theme is ‘Healthy students lead to a healthy community’ and that is why everyone is required to participate. We had 100 per cent participation in this event and everyone came out to run for their houses.”
Ligamatau thanked the support of the school administrators and the students for making the event a successful one.
“The children enjoyed themselves and we thank the board members for their support. We had so much support from the families for allowing their children to come out and the Fiji Sports Council for letting us use the stadium,” he said.
