Mum refuses to give surety

- By SITERI SAUVAKACOLO

TWO brothers charged with aggravated burglary were denied bail after their mother refused to provide them surety.

Shiva, 22, and Abishek Kumar, 19, were produced before Magistrate Lisiate Fotofili yesterday.

Their mother Sangeeta Mala said they would not listen to her if they were granted bail.

As a result, Mr Fotofili remanded the duo and said they would have to face the consequences of their crime. The court was told the brothers were driving to Lautoka on Saturday when they noticed that a house in Yasiyasi, Tavua, was locked.

They drove into the compound and tooted the horn and after no response, they forcefully entered the house and looted the family of its belongings.

The brothers ended up stealing assorted items worth $2412. The court heard CCTV footage was obtained from a service station where they fuelled up.

All the stolen items were recovered from the duo except for $300 in cash. The case has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka.
