Levuka men, Nausori group remanded in custody
FOURTEEN men accused of attacking police officers in Levuka last weekend remain in custody and the Nausori Magistrates Court has told the group to file formal bail applications.
Samisoni Ralulu, Sekove Naititoko, Penioni Drikibau, Joeli Rabuka, Livai Siga, Josevata Yaqona, Joseua Dovutuisau, Apososa Tacaqe, Mate Yasa, Pita Gauna, Tome Sikau, Peniasi Caginiwaqatabu, Josaia Yalovigau and Abel Williams appeared before
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.
The accused are aged between 20 to 45 years and are charged with various offences such as common nuisance, disobedience of lawful order, serious assault, criminal intimidation, and obstructing a police officer.
The court was informed that all men had opted to be represented by the Legal Aid Commission in the matter.

Sunday at Vuci Rd in Nausori have been remanded by the Nausori Magistrates Court.
Mikaele Waqatairewa, 28, Joeli Damudamu, 24, Makeretea Tunasiga, 26, Siteri Dinawai, 20, and Ruci Silita, 43, appeared before Mr Somaratne yesterday.
The group allegedly assaulted four police officers who were attending to a report of a fight at a shop.
The prosecution objected to bail saying the State had a strong case against the accused persons and the matter was of public interest.
The matter will be called on Friday.
