President appeals to pass budget

-

TARAWA - Kiribati President Taneti Maamau has called on MPs to set aside political differences and pass the budget.

The government has struggled to push through the document after it lost its majority in Parliament for the first time in three years.

But in a statement, Mr Maamau said the 2020 budget had overwhelming support from the public.

The High Court ruled on Monday that the speaker must allow a motion to move a vote of no confidence against Mr Maamau.

The leader of the opposition Kiribati Moa, or Kiribati First Party, Banuera Berina, has said a vote will happen Wednesday or Friday.
