Rabuka supports youngsters

- By ERONI TUINUKU

RELATIONSHIP through sports were the words echoed by former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the fourth battle of the Victorians rugby match at the Naviti ground in Sigatoka on Saturday.

A rugby match between Queen Victoria School former students from the eastern and western divisions saw matches in three categories; development, oldies and the main, with one objective and that is to claim the prestigious Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka Shield.

The Eastern zone beat the Western zone team 26-12 and the other two categories were scooped by the Western zone.

Rabuka said the reason he sponsored the tournament was to create a bond between the former scholars and their successors.

“This competition was meant to build a relationship between the old scholars and there is a gap from high school rugby to provincial rugby. We have the QVS old boys team that could involve the ex-scholars to continue using their talents through rugby and eventually secure a place in the national team and also in overseas contracts,” said Rabuka.

Meanwhile, the QVS Old Boys Association also held their annual general meeting and election on Saturday morning at the Warwick Resort.

However, the day started off at Votua Village as the former scholars planted mangroves at the village beachfront to kick off their day before the rugby competition took place at Naviti Ground in the afternoon.
