- By ABISHEK CHAND

A MAJOR mobile network company has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Immigration for a more secure and high-speed internet access.

The MOA between Telecom Fiji Ltd and the Department of Immigration would allow all immigration offices in the country to be connected to the main internet server at the Department of Immigration headquarters in Suva.

This, according to a statement issued by the Department of Information, would also pave the way for improved and faster data and knowledge sharing within the Immigration Department.

The permanent secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Sugar Industry and Immigration Yogesh Karan said the internet, among other communication tools, were crucial in the work of the department.

“This is another initiative aimed at further boosting our daily operations. We will be working very closely with Telecom as they will be our dedicated internet provider. Providing efficient and effective immigration services are key areas for the department and with adequate internet connectivity, service delivery is expected to be further enhanced,” said Mr Karan.

“Digital connectivity through high-speed internet is expected and we acknowledge Telecom for teaming up with the department.”

Telecom Fiji Ltd CEO, Charles Goundar, welcomed the partnership saying, “Telecom’s highspeed connectivity solutions will ensure that the Department of Immigration can engage in much faster and improved data and knowledge sharing among its offices Fijiwide”.
