Mission for Kadavu rugby
THE province of Kadavu has a mission to accomplish and that is to revive their rugby union and participate in the local 15s rugby competition in the future.
The island has developed and raised many former and current national and overseas-based players who have participated in the uplift of the standard of Fiji rugby to where it is now in World Rugby.
The tournament director of the Fiji Bitter Nabukelevu-i-ra rugby sevens tournament Vilikesa Rauca said the island was in a state that they could create something that would benefit them in the future.
“Last month we had a meeting with the Fiji Rugby Union with the initiative of forming a provincial team to be part of the local competitions.
“Before the teams from Kadavu used to be represented by the districts but we want one Kadavu team formed and select the best around the island to be part of this team,” said Rauca.
Kadavu has one of Fiji’s best successful farmers through yaqona and dalo farms and financially stable to even get a team to participate in the local rugby competitions starting from the B/division to the premier grade.
“We will be having meetings with team managers from each club and the government representatives of Kadavu including chiefs from all districts in trying to form a team that could be the next champion in local rugby competitions.
“It’s all about working together because it won’t be an easy task but if we unite to form a team then I believe a few seasons of exposure could see us in the Skipper Cup or Farebrother challenge,” he said.
