FRU refutes 15s coach speculation
FIJI Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor has refuted speculations made on the applicants for the position of Flying Fijians head coach.
The position of the Flying Fijians head coach was advertised two weeks ago and closes tomorrow before the board makes their decision to select the best candidate for the job.
O’Connor confirmed with this newspaper that he refutes all the news regarding French based coaches applying for the job and other speculations.
“I don’t know where they’re getting their information from because all the applications go through me and I haven’t received anything as such,” said O’Connor.
“We’ve received some applications but we haven’t received any that linked with what has been circulating in other media industries and social media.
O’Connor said the applicants apply with high confidentiality and it was our duty to keep it confidential.
“Some applicants don’t want their names or applications to be made public or known and we’ve kept our end of the bargain and these speculations made are all false information,” he said.
However, Fiji Drua coach Senirusi Seruvakula said he applied for the job because he had nothing to lose and he wanted to give it a try.
“Yes, I’ve also applied for the position and I have nothing to lose but I will take my chances and give it a shot,” said Seruvakula.
“If I don’t take the job, I can still go back to coaching Latui and the Drua but if I’m selected then I will continue to develop local talents and blend them with overseas based players and at the same time continue to search for hidden talents in maritime zones and in the interior because there are many good players with talents that needs to be unearthed in rural places,” he said.
Meanwhile the FRU annual general meeting will be held this Saturday at the Warwick Resort and Spa in Sigatoka.
