Christmas treat for forgotten fathers

- By REPEKA NASIKO

TWENTY-SIX residents of the Golden Age Home in Lautoka were treated to a simple gesture of kindness from members of the Velovelo Satsang Kirtan Ramayan Mandali who visited them on Christmas Eve.

The group’s visit was touted as a Christmas present for the male residents who had their haircut and beards shaved.

Mandali president Jaineshwar Pillay said they always wanted to do some community service at the Golden Age Home to assist forgotten fathers.

“It is very unfortunate that these fathers have been abandoned by their loved ones at a time when they needed their family members the most,” he said.

“Actually we came to know about the need for haircutting services for the male residents through the Soroptimist International Lautoka club who have been providing pampering services to the female residents at the home for some time now.

“We decided to immediately start this noble cause so we hired Vishal’s Vision Hair Saloon who also agreed to provide their professional hairdressing services at a reasonable price.”

According to Mr Pillay, the mandali (group) also raised funds and gave to the home.

Meanwhile, Golden Age Home board of visitors chairman Kanti Punja thanked the group for assisting the male residents.

Mr Punja applauded them for utilising their funds for a very humane purpose.

He stressed that the good gesture by the group came as a Christmas delight for the unfortunate fathers.
