Call for coaches
FIJI Surfing Association is looking for Fijians who want to become surfing coaches.
“It definitely sounds like the dream job, but there’s a little more to it than just going surfing every day, and it’s not for everyone,” FSA said.
“Working as a surf coach is as much a lifestyle as it is a career choice. So, if you love surfing, then become a surf coach.”
DO you want to become a surfing coach and help develop Fiji's next generation of surfers or teach the tourists?
It definitely sounds like the dream job, right?
But there's a little more to it than just going surfing every day, and it's not for everyone.
Having said that, it's gotta be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.
Working as a surf coach is as much a lifestyle as it is a career choice. You may not have the latest car and biggest house, but you're spending your time in the best office of them all, at the beach with like-minded people.
So, if you love surfing and love being at the beach and it makes you happy every day, then becoming a surf coach is the way forward.
Surf coaching is all about people; the ones you work for, with and the people you are teaching.
You get to meet and interact with people from all walks of life, different nationalities and ages, and get to share with them your office; the beach and the ocean.
Fiji surfing is gaining popularity locally and many of our tourists are eager to learn.
Each board riding club is aiming to have at least one trained accredited coach to oversee their club members and those in their village.
Like all sports, there is a proper technique that needs to be used to ensure safety and a rapid skill development.
There are a few things you need to know about getting your coaching accreditation.
To be qualified, you need to hold both an acceptable surf rescue certificate, the CPR qualification, as well as the actual surf coaching certificate in order to be able to coach.
The next FSA Level 1 surf coaching accreditation course will be on February 8-9 at the Beachouse, Coral Coast.
Contact headcoach@surfingfiji.org or 8307173. Come and enjoy the stoke.
There is an update for the surf rescue and CPR for those who need this qualification on February 15 at Beachouse. The course will be conducted by Handy Training members, who are registered trainers for lifesaving courses. Contact Andy Eames at andy@handytrainingfiji.com to register.
