Parties ink deal to strengthen data sharing
A NEW memorandum of understanding between the Reserve Bank of Fiji and the Fiji Bureau of Statistics will allow the organisations to facilitate the ongoing data demands of its stakeholders and the public at large.
A statement from the central bank yesterday said the two parties strengthened their long standing information sharing collaboration through the MOU which would further facilitation and co-ordination of data sharing.
RBF governor Ariff Ali said the availability of relevant and timely data was vital for both agencies to achieve their mandates and facilitate the growth and development of the economy.
According to the statement the newly appointed FBoS chief executive officer Kemueli Naiqama said with the aim of providing reliable, timely and relevant statistics through a strategy geared towards greater engagement with the providers and users of data, had played a significant role in providing statistical data on key economic, social and financial indicators.
He said it aimed to engage with relevant stakeholders as a means of better assisting the needs of its statistical users as well as allow capacity development for its staff.
The MOU between RBF and FBoS is expected to improve the quality of data gathering and analysis which will in turn allow for the timely identification of development challenges and the formulation of corresponding policy interventions.
