Mum goes extra mile for son

-

IT'S without doubt that every parent wants the best for their children.

For single parent, Sereana Likusalusalu, going an extra mile to provide quality education for her son is her ultimate goal.

Ms Likusalusalu was among many parents who queued up at the Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School on Monday hoping for a spot for her son at the school.

"I had enrolled my son in many schools around the Suva-Nausori corridor, however, there were no calls, so I continued searching," she said.

"I'm thankful to the principal and teachers for accepting my son into this school"

The 45-year-old said she was thankful that the burden of sending her son to school was taken off her shoulders by the Government.

"Back then, many of us were sent to school provided if our parents can afford it, but now it is free, it's much easier for us as parents as we are no longer worried about their school fees," she said.

"Transportation too has been made easier as the government is paying for it. I also thank the Nakelo District School for giving my son book vouchers as his award that lifted another burden off me."

However, the Nakelo, Tailevu native encouraged students to see the struggle of parents as their motivation.

"This does not say that everything is free, we have to buy other required school stuff as well. Things are expensive nowadays.

"Make sure you study hard in school and keep in mind the difficulties that parents face in preparing you for school.

"If you're good in sports, try balancing it with your academic work. If you don't get a white collar job, go for the blue ones even if it means for you to become a farmer, as long as you provide for yourself rather than being dependent on someone else," she said with finality.
