Scholarships

Dreams come true for children

- By JOSEFA BABITU

IT is the dream of every child to go to school with new books and stationery in their new backpacks.

For 12 children from Nabukavesi Village in Namosi, it was a blessing after they received scholarship support from Pleass Global Ltd (PGL).

The company believes that providing quality education to children would birth an educated community.

“Every year, we try and help our local community with back to school expenses and also expenses for those who go to boarding schools,” PGL’s marketing director Cate Pleass said.

“It basically covers any of their back to school expenses like uniforms, books, shoes and for those who are going to boarding school we help them finance their household requirements.

“We identified over the years that some families were struggling with their back to school expenses and so we put in place this scholarship program in Nabukavesi Village.

“It gives students the opportunity to attend school with all the equipment they need this year and allowing them internships with the company to help them to get experience. It helps them also decide what studies they would like to do in university.

This is the fourth year that the company has turned dreams into reality for the children of Namosi Village.

“It is very important for us to assist our local communities,” said Cate Pleass.

“Our company is committed in helping our local community. So we are quite happy to work with them if they like to do internships here.

“One of our interns this year was awarded the scholarship last year and the year before and she interned in our finance department.

“At the end of the day, hard work pays success.”

The 2020 recipients were: Alison Wilson Teani, Kelera Batilekaleka, Saninimere Verina, Tobia Matavutuka, Selina Kula, Ro Siteri Lovonatua, Selita Dicake, Sharon Elizabeth, Tobia Talemaicolo, Peni Tave, Kelemeta Avanua and Ilisapeci Radradra.

PGL is a corporation principally engaged in the production and marketing of bottled water and eco-tourism services that was established in 1996.
