NGO to the rescue
ANON-GOVERNMENT organisation called Alliance for Future Generations-Fiji (AFG Fiji) has been active donating school stationery for Fijian students around the country. Co-ordinator Lavetanalagi Seru said the initiative was to “help those young minds that are in need of educational assistance”.
The organisation has more than 60 stationery packs to give out and have started their distribution over the weekend.
“We see education as a key that unlocks your potential. We also see it as a drive for social change that could uplift individuals and communities from wherever they are. We see it as a progress of any society as well,” said Mr Seru.
He added the smiles on faces of children was the ultimate satisfaction they get after distributing the items.
“We are trying to empower education as it open doors of opportunities for the many in our society. It is one of our ways of contributing back to the society that once looked after us in our educational path.”
The Lal Patel Bale lawyers were one of its donors after the organisation reached out to them for assistance.
“We believe that every child in Fiji has the right to an education, no matter their circumstance or geographical location,” Kya Lal, a lawyer at the firm said.
“However, we are well aware that many students are often not able to complete their education due to financial or other constraints. Our firm is a big believer in the transformative power of education and were more than happy to support an initiative such as this.
“As lawyers, we have the ability to make a significant difference in our communities not just for our clients, but for Fiji as a whole, so it’s important that we assist and support initiatives such as this wherever possible.”
The drive started on the last week of November and ended Thursday last week.
AFG Fiji was founded in 2018.
So far they have donated 1400 books along with other school stationery last year.
