“As I join you this morning, my thoughts are with Fijians in our Northern and Eastern divisions who have borne the brunt of TC Tino throughout the week,” he said.

“Our disaster authorities are on the ground in impacted communities working overtime to re-open access to flooded regions and restore critical services to affected Fijians.”

Mr Bainimarama said he would lead the recovery team to bring back the status of people affected by the natural disaster to normalcy.

“After this event, I will return to leading our national response to TC Tino.”

He also advised people to take precautionary measures to avoid accidents.

“In the meantime, I’d like to take this chance to again urge all Fijians to remain vigilant until waters have subsided and, please, stay away from flooded areas.”

President of the Chinese Association of Fiji, Jenny Seeto, acknowledged Mr Bainimarama for taking time out from his busy schedule to be part of the event.

“Our thoughts are with those who are affected.

“We pray that you bounce forward as we mark the Year of the Rat,” she said.
