‘Disease impacts travel’

- By REPEKA NASIKO

CONSUMER confidence in travelling to Fiji is really low as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Confirming the impact that the disease has caused on the travelling public, Tourism Fiji revealed that more relaxed travelling fees would be introduced to attract visitors to Fiji.

“The situation changes on a daily basis and we continue to navigate a path through this global disruption the best we can,” a Tourism Fiji update stated.

“Our strategies are changing alongside the situation.

“Given this it is more important than ever that we work together to stay aligned with our strategies.

“Our regular consultations with the Ministry of Industry Trade and Tourism, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, SOFTA, Fiji Airways and FHTA have been invaluable for this.

“One thing that came out of these consultations is that consumer confidence in travel is currently really low. For that reason, we are focused on removing this uncertainty for those considering a holiday to Fiji.”

The government agency added that some tourismrelated activities have also been affected.

“One event that we have received a lot of enquiries about is understandably FTE (Fiji Tourism (Expo).

“We are monitoring the situation closely and will be giving regular updates in the lead-up to the event.”
