RKS, Nasinu rule rugby league finals
RATU Kadavulevu School has once again retained its rights as the Southern\Eastern Zone Secondary schools under-15 and U17 rugby league champions.
The boys from Delainakaikai won both grades but unfortunately their U19 side went down to Nasinu Secondary School 9-8 at the FSSRL finals at the St Marcellin Primary School ground in Vatuwaqa yesterday. In the U15 they defeated Queen Victoria School 8-4 and in the U17 they defeated Nasinu Secondary School 12-8.
RKS U17 captain Antonio Galeed Cakauniqio dedicated the win to the Almighty for giving them the strength and to their parents for their never ending support.
“I would like to thank God for his protection over the week, without him we couldn’t have taken Nasinu. I also would like to thank the boys for their hard work and their determination throughout the week,” he said.
“Building up to the national quarter-finals next week, we will have to work on our defence and improve on our mistakes so that we don’t repeat it next week.”
The Wainigadru Tawake Cakaudrove lad said being held neck to neck eight-all with Nasinu was one of the toughest situation he had to face but he encouraged his players to fight on.
“I told the boys to improve on our defence and keep their forwards away from the tryline.”
Despite having new players in the team he said everything turned out the way they wanted.
FNRL chairman Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto congratulated the teams for their great achievement.
“We the FNRL are working very hard in providing a pathway for players. As you have heard we have formed the Kaiviti Silktails to play in the Ron Massey Cup and they actually won their first game,” he said.
“We are trying to identify that talents and provide you a pathway to maybe reaching overseas competition.”
The national quarter-finals will be held at Garvey Park in Tavua next week.
