Debut win
Kaiviti Silktails’ Apimeleki Lutuimawi powers his way to the tryline against the Windsor Wolves during their debut match in the Ron Massey Cup at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday. The Silktails won 40-16.
THE Kaiviti Silktails started its 2020 Ron Massey Cup campaign on a high note after beating Windsor Wolves 40-16 in the opening round at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
Hooker Penioni Tagituimua proved to be the star for the home side scoring a brace of tries after the two teams were locked 16-all at half-time.
A pep talk by coach Brandon Costin paved the right way for the home side as they scored four unanswered tries.
Silktails chairman Petero Civoniceva said the team performed above expectations.
He said they still had some areas to improve on.
“It was a wonderful way to start the competition,” Civoniceva said.
“It was a hot and physical battle out there,” the former Fiji Bati said.
“I’m proud of the boys but we don’t want to get far ahead of ourselves. We need to speed our rucks, seeing how the opposition defence set up.
“We have to learn a lot and need to improve but I’m extremely proud of the efforts of the players.”
The Silktails will face Glebe Concord Wolves at Churchill Park on March 21 at 7pm.
