Leaders told to be vigilant

- By SITERI SAUVAKACOLO

TEACHERS continue to be involved in sexual offences and other related behavioural problems and it’s a pity they do it on children they have been entrusted to mould academically, socially and spiritually.

Ministry of Education director secondary Iosefo Masivue revealed this during the TISI Sangam heads of schools and school managers’ seminar at Lautoka’s Tanoa Waterfront Hotel on Friday.

“It’s a pity we have the heart to do such things to children who we have been entrusted to develop academically, socially and spiritually,” Mr Masivue said.

“I plead with heads of schools, while you trust your teachers, just be aware of the unexpected.

“There is no tolerance to these issues by the ministry.”

He said there had been suspensions and terminations of teachers in the past as a result of such behaviour, and he urged heads of schools to always be on the lookout for such issues.

Mr Masivue also reminded school heads to immediately contact relevant authorities if such issues arise in their schools.
