Police find ‘parcels’ in loaf of bread

ELEVEN people were arrested by police in Suva last week for allegedly being in possession of drugs.

Police spokeswoma­n Ana Naisoro said out of these, six were arrested towards the end of the week when they were allegedly found with drugs believed to be marijuana.

According to Ms Naisoro, two men aged 30 and 40 who were allegedly found with sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana were arrested at the Suva market on Thursday.

She said another two were arrested on Friday after two separate raids involved a 47-year-old man living in Vatuwaqa, Suva, and a 37-year-old man.

“The first accused was searched where clear plastic zip lock bags containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana was allegedly found in his possession,” she said.

“The second accused was searched whereby officers found dried leaves believed to be marijuana allegedly in his possession.”

Ms Naisoro said two arrests were made on Friday by officers on beat patrol. The two from Nauluvatu, Naitasiri, were searched and were allegedly found in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

She said apart from this, a separate raid conducted on Wednesday with the K9 team along Nakauvadra Rd in Delainaves­i, Lami, saw three people arrested for allegedly being in possession of sachets of dried leaves and a clear plastic containing white crystals believed to be an illicit drug.

“The two men have been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs while the woman who is pregnant is admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.”

In Ba, a 37-year-old fisherman was searched and arrested after officers discovered dried leaves believed to be marijuana. In a separate case a team of officers found green plants believed to be marijuana growing in a sugarcane field in Nanuku, along the Kings Rd.

Ms Naioro said a 27-year-old man living at Vunikoba, Savusavu, was arrested after a search conducted by an officer based at the Rabi Community Post.

She said the suspect was acting in a suspicious manner and when searched by police, two parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana were discovered in a loaf of bread in his possession.
