DURING last week the FSA conducted Judging workshops from Nadi to Suva.

Each club was contacted to host the workshop that was for their club members.

A strong turnout from Vunaniu with attentive junior surfers learning how to score better points and what judges are looking for when scoring their rides.

By understanding the judging process better will make our surfers ready for higher levels of competition. Surfers who don't go over the judging criteria when being coached are only half training.

Last weekend saw over 40 enthusiastic grommet surfers take to the waves at Natadola.

Some as young as seven showed plenty of excitement to be surfing with their friends and like minded kids assisted by their parents or older siblings.

Every competitor received a Tshirt and a medallion to remember their day by. There was also prizes given away to lucky grommets from Fiji Surf Co surf trips, leg ropes and deck pads from Dakine and some recycled plastic FCS fins. Korotogo also supplied cold fresh watermelon for the hungry grommets

It was a great day without competition and the majority enjoyed the free surf expression session. Keep your eyes open more more events.

This Saturday will be our second Open team selection / training session at Sigatoka Sand Dunes starting at 9am.

As per the previous sessions your fitness will be tested and surfers will be required to score the 4-plus rating on their rides. Who can step up to this benchmark?

Our secoind Grommet development day is Saturday, March 21 at Natadola. The day is designed to have the club coaches in attendance to coach their kids whilst being guided to improved coaching methods. These were held last year and proved successful uncovering hidden talents. With high tide around 5pm our grommet session will commence at 3.30pm.

Coaches names and grommet names need to be sent to Porto; headcoach@surfingfiji.org. ■
