MUM DEFIES ALL ODDS

Living on a prayer

- By AQELA SUSU

BEING unemployed and raising two children single-handedly is a huge challenge.

But Litia Lomalagi takes on the responsibility as a blessing. The 27-year-old left her job as a hotel worker in Nadi to focus on raising her two children.

Faced with a situation many would label as “impossible”, the mother of two said prayer was her constant companion.

Ms Lomalagi said God remained her only source of hope and strength.

“Some of the challenges I faced was learning to live an independent life, knowing that half of my family does not agree to what has happened in my life because I was a teenage mother,” the Sauniveiuto, Deuba lass said.

“I know what it’s like to be rejected from your own family and not having a sense or a feeling of being loved by close family members but throughout my life and despite these challenges, I have learnt and seen what the power of prayer has done for my kids, my family and I.

“Just as John says in Chapter 14 verse 14 – ask of anything in my name, I will do it.

“I’ve never doubted the power of prayer because can I tell you, my God is always faithful.”

Despite the hurdles she faced along her journey, Ms Lomalagi said she has learnt to appreciate the little that she has been blessed with.

“And always give thanks to God even if you have nothing or when you are in the midst of your worst nightmare.

“These lessons are important in a sense that there were times when there was nothing in the house and I wasn’t working and I always taught my kids that no matter what happens, God will provide.

“My kids are familiar with the word ‘sacrifice.’

“We would pray and fast and one way or another God would always provide for us.

Her advice to single mothers who may be going through similar situations was to love and prioritise their children.

“When you take a closer look at your children, you will understand that being a parent is by far the best thing you could ever be blessed with.

“Even when you don’t have family support, just know that God is always there for you.

“The Bible, in the Book of Genesis, says that God feeds the birds of the air and every creature on this planet, so why should you worry about who will support you and your child?”
