Supplies for schoolchildren
ONE hundred and thirteen children attending Valelawa Primary School, Labasa, were provided essential school supplies, courtesy of the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC) Fiji.
Officer in-charge national operations Priya Lata said some of the children would not have attended school because they lacked basic school equipment.
“These children were from Nakanacagi, Naua, Voloca, Nawase, Natekateka and Batiri,” she said.
“The assistance given to these villages was from donations in kind from Big Synergy Electrical, CK’s Bargain and Jedi’s Stationery.
“They basically helped us help the poor children at the school.”
Apart from Valelawa, FENC Fiji also provided emergency assistance to Duavata Secondary
School. “Duavata Secondary is located in a very remote area in the Macuata Province, approximately 120km away from Labasa Town.
“About 57 children from Cawaro, Nukusa, Namoli, Vunikodi, Nabouono, Cagiveisau, Nasigasiga, Qaranivai and Lagi villages were assisted.
“These children were already in school but lacked essential school supplies.
“The only source of living for these villages is income earned from fishing on a daily basis.
“This year alone we have assisted more than 3000 children across Fiji and implemented eight core programs to ensure children receive the assistance in a very timely and efficient manner so there is no hindrance to their school work.”
Ms Lata said FENC Fiji was committed to improving the situation of the poorest families by investing in their children’s education.
