President proud of awards night outcome

-

GREETINGS to all.

It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge your humble presence this evening.

May I also appreciate the presence our chief guest Minister for Employment, Industrial relations , Youth and Sports Honorable Parveen Kumar, our guest of honour, FIFA Legend Wes Brown, former Manchester United, district officials, sponsors, players , FIFA Legends co-ordinator Stefanie Krisch and Fiji FA board members and staff.

This year, the entire Fiji football fraternity is pleased to have the Manchester United legend Brown to add popularity and lift the football profile in Fiji. We are thankful to the FIFA Legends program to facilitate this process. Welcome to Fiji Wes!

The Fiji Football Awards Night enters its 27th year and I am proud to say the event is growing bigger and better every year. The inaugural event was in 1993 with only seven categories contested but in years it grew as we have sixteen awards to offer this year.

The Vodafone/ Fiji FA Awards are therefore designed to recognise and value the contribution of those players, administrators, volunteers and staff that have been charged with the responsibility of ensuring that everything in the team is congruent and well co-ordinated to deliver successful results at any given opportunity.

We should by now understand that football is a team sport therefore its success is measured by cordial relationships that are all aimed at a particular goal.

Essentially, the team often depends on the unique and natural talents of an individual so that its contribution creates an opportunity for others to thrive.

To the nominees , the awards present an opportunity for thorough introspection and an opportunity to evaluate individual contribution into the eventual success of a team. We should understand that all the players at Fiji Football have different abilities and skill.

Kindly note that these awards do not suggest that some members of the team did not exert their commitment to the latter.

The awards instead confirm that the districts recognise their individuality and their commitment to making it one of the most successful and potent forces in the history of football in this country.

You will notice therefore that there are varying categories and criteria applied to recognise such.

Let these awards night allow us some time together to harmonise our relations by recognising and celebrating the achievements of the individuals that make Fiji Football.

May I therefore thank the team that has delivered on these awards this evening. It is encouraging to notice that we have matured in both form and approach over the many years we have been hosting an occasion of this nature.

I would also like to thank the Vodafone Fiji for their continued support in development of football in Fiji.

It is also proper that I thank our business partners and sponsors for their selfless contribution towards the organistaion this year.

I hope that we sustain such strategic business relationships that have potential to increase our influence in Fiji and in football generally. It also fair to thank the media that worked with us over the season. I hope that your experience and its influence in public opinions has put Fiji FA in a favourable position as a news source for all sporting matters related to football.

I take this opportunity to wish Fiji FA the best for their awards night and congratulate all nominees and the winners in advance. RAJESH PATEL ■
