Individuals recognised

- By PRADEEP LAL Vodafone regional CEO

DEAR friends of football.

The vision behind the concept of the Vodafone Fiji Football Awards is to make this inclusive annual event wherein we recognise those who have been exemplary in domestic and international football.

Behind every goal, every assist and defence by the players on the pitch there is a dedicated team of administrators, officials, volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to deliver this beautiful game.

The outstanding events of the 2019 season just gone by highlighted once again the social and cultural dimension of football.

The senior men’s’ national team remained undefeated on home soil with two wins from two matches against touring Mauritius and New Caledonia teams.

This highlights an improved and solid local competition spanning across the schools, club and district competitions.

International exposure for the age-grade levels also came to the fore with teams heading offshore for the Oceania Championships.

It is these levels of exposure, through Vodafone’s sponsorship, which a young Roy Krishna was discovered and since then has continued to raise the bar on the international arena, so much so, that his football team ATK is outperforming in the Indian Super League.

He has given a profile boost to Fiji football through his professional performance which have awed thousands of supporters here in Fiji, New Zealand and now in India.

At Vodafone, we will therefore continue to pursue and support

Fiji football with the goal of further developing and nurturing football across the country as long as it is feasible.

We will continue to reward our customers with exclusive experience through our sponsorship of sports which only Vodafone can deliver.

Vodafone will continue with its endeavour to offer Fijians the best in ICT technologies to connect them with our underlying aim to enrich peoples’ lives and make a real difference with our products and services.

I acknowledge the work put in by Fiji Football Association, affiliated districts, respective stakeholders and the passionate fans that have over the years worked together to uplift the standard of the game.

This was the second year running for Fiji FA Awards to step out of its traditional hosting venues to be held in an esteemed venue such as Pullman Resort following on from Sofitel Resort last year.

We also welcome to our shores the chief guest to the 2020 Vodafone Fiji Annual Awards, FIFA Legend and former Manchester United and England international, Wes Brown.

We stand ready with Fiji football to deliver yet another fruitful football season in 2020.

We wish all those who have been nominated the very best and to all eventual award winners, congratulations in advance.

Vinaka.
