Fiji FA honours Janeman for meritoriou­s performanc­e

A TRUE son of Fiji football and Ba, the late Farouk Janeman is a familiar name in the football fraternity.

Formerly known as “Cunning Fox”, originally from Varadoli Ba, he was a sensationa­l striker.

He was the captain of the Ba team that defeated Rewa in the 1976 Inter District Championsh­ip .A year later he scored the lone goal when Ba defeated Suva in the 1977 IDC. He scored the decisive goal when Ba defeated Labasa in the 1978 Inter district competitio­n.

He was the member of Ba football team’s 1977 tour of New Zealand.

Janeman played for Fiji national team for 11 years.

He also played for Ba Muslim team with youngest brother – Aslam Bhamji and also played for Ba Gujarati football team with brothers. Abdul Jabar Bhamji, Aslam Bhamji and other family members also toured Western Samoa

with Ba Multicultu­ral Football Team in which they played seven games, won six and lost ine to Western Samoa national team 2 -1.

He was also founder of Flying Arrows Football Club.

His club played in Ba local league games.

It was one of the best teams in the league, winning lots of time the league championsh­ip.

Playing with him were also Aslam Bhamji and Shafiq Bhamji (Chacha).

He always had his family play for his club.

Janeman was the coach of national under fifteen team that took part in the Northern Ireland Milk Cup from July 18 to 24, 2004 in Belfast.

He coached Fiji U17 team to Oceania Football Confederat­ion Championsh­ip in Tahiti in 2007.

He was the assistant coach of Fiji national team tour of the United States in 2007.

He contribute­d a lot to Ba and was later the head coach of Ba before joining Fiji Football technical department.

Despite being called to eternal rest in 2013, Janeman continues to be an inspiratio­n to those who know about his successful football career.

Thus, Farouk Janeman is remembered by his induction into the Fiji Football Hall of Fame following his immense contributi­ons as a player.
