POLICE AFTER PICTURES
POLICE officers yesterday served a search warrant on The Fiji Times to obtain photographs of public protest meetings at the University of the South Pacific earlier this week.
The search warrant claimed that police had “reasonable cause to suspect” that the photographs were “necessary to the conduct of an investigation into an offence”.
The search warrant authorised police officers to obtain “video footage and photograph articles of USP staff and student protest dated 9 June 2020”.
The Fiji Times editor-inchief Fred Wesley said the newspaper was required to give to the police three photographs relating to the protest which appeared in the newspaper on Wednesday.
He said other information had been requested by the police relating to the photographs and this request was in the hands of the newspaper’s lawyers.
