Timely support for families in need
TEN underprivileged families living at the Nanuku settlement in Vatuwaqa, Suva, will have food on the table over the next few days, thanks to the kindness of good Samaritans.
The assistance was made possible through the efforts of
Freedom Riders Association and the Royal Suva Yacht Club.
The assistance yesterday was not the first as the group has been collecting, packaging and distributing relief supplies to over 50 families in settlements around Suva in recent weeks.
Single mother of three and carer for her elderly parents Savitri Devi said her family knew the value of such gifts during these trying times.
Ms Devi said during these difficult times they were thankful for the help.
“I sometimes fear, not knowing where our next meal will come from, but I know we still serve a living God and for that we are grateful,” she said.
Lata Sneh, 48, was all smiles when she received the food pack.
She said there would be a change to the family’s daily diet of dhal and rice.
Association president Narend Naidu said they planned to reach out to more families in the next few days.
“The spirit of giving is just amazing in these difficult times and we are blessed to be assisted by the (Royal) Suva Yacht Club,” he said.
The association’s general secretary, Divendra Prasad, thanked the Methodist Church for connecting the group with the families.
Royal Suva Yacht Club’s vice president Patrick Todd said they were blessed to be of service for a worthy cause.
