SODELPA LEADER READY FOR SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
SOCIAL Democratic Liberal Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka will attend the party’s special general meeting at the Novotel Convention Centre in Lami tomorrow.
He claimed he would attend the meeting with the backing of the party’s 20 members of Parliament.
Mr Rabuka said the 20 SODELPA MPs had showed their unanimous confirmation towards his leadership for the party and the parliamentary caucus.
SOCIAL Democratic Liberal Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka says the vote of confidence for his leadership by 20 party members of Parliament is an added boost to his effort to unify and lead the party to victory in 2022.
Mr Rabuka said he was constitutionally required to attend the meeting and to ensure compliance of instructions from the Fijian Elections Office.
“A special meeting of the SODELPA General Assembly will be held on Saturday, 25th July 2020 at the Novotel Convention Centre in Lami,” he said.
“While I regret the timing of the SGM because it comes in the middle of our preparations for the parliamentary debate on the 2020-2021 National Budget, which the whole nation is looking forward to, the SGM is necessary for compliance with the Fijian Elections Office directives.”
He said he was committed and responsible for his duty as party and parliamentary leader of SODELPA and Leader of Opposition.
“My attempts at reconciliation are ongoing and I do not yet have an ‘action complete’ to present to the general assembly for a meaningful reconciliation, and a ‘lotu vata’ afterwards.”
Mr Rabuka said the SODELPA management board would appoint a new acting president today after Vijay Singh’s term had expired.
