Putting a smile on other faces

- By PAULINI CURUQARA

PUTTING a smile on someone’s face is worth everything for Ilaitia Nailailai Bakani. Mr Bakani simply does it by creating the best decoration displays for weddings, birthdays and special occasions.

With this talent, Mr Bakani takes delight over floral arrangements with colours, scent and shapes being the reason behind his eye-catchy arrangements.

As a creative individual Mr Bakani, who hails from Nausori Village, Tailevu, always strives to make others happy with his skills.

I’ve always loved to create floral arrangement or decoration displays out of anything,” he said.

“I started floral arrangement at a young age when I was still attending Nausori District School.

“From there, I went onto Lelean Memorial School and pursued an education at the Fiji National University,” he said.

“I joined Telecom as an intern soon after university and then went onto Recoveries Corp.

“From there, I joined Fiji Airways as a reservation staff member and travel agent and later moved onto Northern Air.”

He said even with those great work opportunities he knew in his heart that he could do great with his talent of arranging flowers.

“When I was working I did flower arrangement and decoration on the side.

“It wasn’t a business but was just something that I loved doing for people.

“The best part of doing floral arrangement is seeing the expression in people’s faces after an arrangement is completed or after decorating an event.

“It’s not a business yet as I simply just love doing it to brighten people’s day up or their functions because it’s what I love doing,” he said.

He hopes to broaden his knowledge and skills of floral arrangement in the future.

“I’m looking to set up a business in the long run which is why I want to learn more about floral arrangements.

“To do that I need to take into consideration the types of material I will use and how I’m going to get it.

“I look forward to doing that in the future.”

He said what motivated him to work hard was the end result of an arrangement.

“Putting a smile on someone’s face after they see their arrangement means everything to me and I’m happy when others are happy through my creativity,” he said.
