Nadawa Rd hazards

-

IT is pleasing to note that project of constructing the footpaths in the Nadawa area is almost complete and only the bitumen implementation is required to seal the surface of the road to the edge of the footpath.

The entire area now has a brand new pavement that has increased safety for pedestrians.

Improved facilities for pedestrians improves accessibility and may help to increase walking as a mode of exercise to improve health and fitness. Together with streetlights, it has improved the quality of life of the residents.

However, it is noted with profound concern that the engineers during the design stage of the project had failed to recognise the human safety features of the development and did not cater well for the traffic movement.

Apart from the frontage of the main gate of the garment factory situated along the Nadawa Rd that can easily cater for about four buses simultaneously, there are no other bus stop bays in the area.

The buses pick up and drop off passengers everywhere adding great risk to the people and the motorists.

This problem will escalate further because of the population growth and the increased number of vehicles.

Most of the people use the bus service as their preferred mode of transport and I believe that it runs every 20 minutes and the frequency increases during the peak time.

Instead of improving the safety of all the new development has created a hazard with very high chances of an accident.

Any new projects undertaken must be planned in such a way that the infrastructure should serve its purpose for another 50 years but in this scenario has placed everyone in peril from day one.

Such shoddy work I believe is the result of incompetency of the initial urbanistic planners.
