Everyone has a talent

-

SHE was always fascinated by the creativity and techniques used to make jewellery.

This was where the idea to start her own business emerged.

For 28-year-old Anastasia Georgiou what started off as a hobby turned out into a successful business venture.

Ms Georgiou, the owner, creator/designer for “Star Jewels Fiji”, says she has been operating her business for eight years.

“I was at the ROC market once and saw a lady making jewellery and was inspired to make my own too,” she said.

At first she said it was just a hobby and a pastime activity to earn pocket money.

“A few years later I noticed that there was a demand for handmade jewellery and my clients started growing that’s when I made the move into wire wrapping jewellery and the rest was history.”

Ms Georgiou said one of the challenges she faced was getting the right and quality tools, materials and packaging for her business.

“We also have a lot of jewellers in Suva and we get our beads from the same shops, so in order to have a step up and be different I had to find other options like buying my product online and getting my sister to send them from the United States.

“Another challenge would be sending items for our overseas customers, postage can get expensive so we just wait for a friend or family member to go overseas then we pass it through them”.

She thanked her family for their support and her son, Johval, who she said was her biggest motivation and driving force.

“My message to the public and youths is everyone has a talent even if you’re not good in school don’t lose hope or be discouraged. Find your talent, research and talk to people about it and seek advice from other small business owners.

“You might struggle at first but always remember when you’re down there the only place to go is up.”
