Ryan sends tribute

OLYMPIC gold medal winning coach Ben Ryan, in an emotional tribute sent his condolence­s to the vanua o Serua on the passing of its paramount chief, the Vunivalu of Serua and namesake Ratu Peni Latianara.

After their return from a successful campaign at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Ryan was made an honorary chief in the province, as part of Latianara’s reward to his namesake and gratitude on behalf of the nation.

“It was one of the proudest days of my life when I was made a chief in the beautiful province of Serua,” Ryan wrote in a post on his social media

“Our paramount chief, the Vunivalu of Serua, my namesake, Ratu Peni Latianara sadly passed away on Sunday.

“His funeral is today (yesterday) and from London, I’m sending all my lolomas to the clan and the villages of Serua and beyond.”
