Lautoka heads battle

HOSTS Lautoka will face Rewa, Nadi and Navua in the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants at Churchill Park in Lautoka next month.

The other pool includes defending champion Labasa, Ba, Suva and Nasinu.

The pool draw was held at the Ocean Soaps Pte Ltd building in Lautoka yesterday. The winner of the tournament will receive $18,000.

The runner-up will get $5000 while the losing semi-finalists will collect $2500 each.

The group stage will be held from August 7-9 while the semi-finals will be staged on August 15 and the final will be played the following day.

Fiji Football Associatio­n president Rajesh Patel said the prizemoney for the tournament remained the same. He said the ticket prices had decreased because of limited seating.

“The total number of people allowed at Churchill Park will be 6000,” Patel said.

“Only 650 people will be allowed in Pavilion A which will cost $15 per person. There are 1200 tickets that will be sold for Pavilion B at $12 each while the entry fee for the embankment will be $6. Matches will also be shown live on television.”

Meanwhile, Fiji FA started the distributi­on of packages as part of its relief program to assist players and officials who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,

The Fiji FA received about $66,000 from the Oceania Football Confederat­ion Solidarity Fund which will benefit 400 applicants.

The parent body has partnered with Punjas Group of Companies to organise food hampers which will be distribute­d to those affected in the Western, Southern and Northern Divisions.
