Bonus point win for Naitasiri at home

NAITASIRI started its 2020 Skipper Cup campaign on a high note when they scored a 29-11 bonus point victory over Lautoka at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Naitasiri captained by policeman Sireli Kaloucava, who led by example from his number eight position, scoring his team’s second try after barging his way over from three metres out.

Kaloucava was ably supported by his pack with the experienced Joeli Veitayaki holding his own in the front row.

Lanky lock Necani Nawaqadau scored the first try of the match after he was helped over the tryline by his fellow forwards during one of their inroads into the Lautoka 22 metre line. Twenty-eight-yearold Nawaqadau worked tirelessly during the breakdowns and was strong in defence during his time on the pitch.

The highlanders played a well organised match, with the forwards contesting well for possession before it was sent out to their speedy backline.

Naitsiri’s two second half tries were scored when the backline was given clean balls when the defence were sucked in through quick rucks inside the opposition half.

Nippy fullback Kini Douglas was put through when the Naitasiri side created an overlap while the last try from winger Tomasi Vula was made possible when first-five Tuidraki Samusamuvodre cleverly chipped the ball behind the retreating Lautoka defence and Vula managed to dive over to score the bonus point

Lautoka points were from two penalties from former Naitasiri first-five Waisea Luveniyali who nailed a penalty in each half and a try to Ilaisa Leca in the second half.

While the Kasavu villager Luveniyali has missed a couple of years in local rugby, yesterday he showed fans that packed Ratu Cakobau Park that he still has that sharp kicking boots that helped Naiatsiri to victory in past years.
