One day coaching clinic to help development of grassroots rugby

- By ERONI TUINUKU

THE Kombat Sportswear Supporting grassroots program hosted a one-day rugby clinic at Vatukarasa Village Nadroga for the Conua Legion Rugby Club yesterday.

The Kombat Sportswear Supporting grassroots program coordinator Malakai Yamaivava said their goal had always been grooming young children with the basics of rugby.

“Part of the rugby club is to train grassroots players with the basics of rugby.

“This includes passing drills, kicking drills, running lines and scrum and many other basic skills that are very important in playing rugby.

“If we have a solid base of grooming our young ones then we will have no problems with our senior teams because they are being taught on the basics at a young age.

‘Once they move to provincial club and international levels, they are regarded as one of the best in the world and that starts with this program we are driving forward.

The one day rugby clinic ended with a handover of sponsorship from Kombat Sportswear and Bumble Bee to Conua Rugby Club in Nadroga.

Sponsorship worth $3000 includes a new rugby 15s uniform set and training gears to assist the Conua Rugby Club with the 2020 rugby season.

“We are also very grateful to all our co-sponsors for the Vatukarasa Village Rugby Clinic 2020
