Farmers await expiry notices

- By SERAFINA SILAITOGA

SEAQAQA canegrowers whose leases will expire in 2025 have yet to be notified of the fact by the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB).

Farmers raised the issue at a consultation with the TLTB, Fiji Sugar Corporation and Sugar Cane Growers Fund held at Solove Primary School recently.

Most farmers said they had not received a letter of notification to inform them about the expiry of lease in five years time.

Advisory councillor Basant Prasad said farmers should be informed so they could map out plans for the remaining lease period.

TLTB reps told the growers they had posted all notification letters using the farmers addresses in their records.

Farmers, however, said they had not received anything so far.

TLTB deputy general manager Solomoni Nata instructed his team to deliver the notification letters to farmers so they could make the necessary preparations and also decide on whether they would renew leases.
