Teachers told to limit online time
TEACHERS have been told to “limit online news consumption as this may cause unnecessary anxiety and stress”.
This was the word to educators via circular to all head teachers and principals issued on July 15 by national education service delivery director Timoci Bure.
“Limited online news consumption. Continually checking the social media news is a way to cause unnecessary anxiety and stress,” he said in the circular which outlined 11 ways teachers could aid their health.
“Decide how much time per day you will spend online checking reliable sources and keep the limit.”
He told teachers to use the internet to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues.
“Aim to get at least one good laugh from each connection.”
In the circular, Mr Bure also asked teachers to maintain a routine.
“A daily routine provides a sense of normalcy at an abnormal time.”
Mr Bure also said teachers should do physical exercise by walking in the mornings and afternoons.
“If stuck indoors, use social media, YouTube, Zoom to dance and exercise.’
Mr Bure told teachers to get eight hours of sleep, eat healthy food, drink water and focus on positive qualities.
“Go for counselling if you need further help.”
