24 projects worth $72m approved
SO far this year the Local Government Ministry has approved 24 applications which consist of residential, industrial and commercial development projects worth $72 million.
Local Government Minister Premila Kumar said September was a good month for the town and country planning team as nine projects had been approved for this month alone and the cost of the development projects was about $48 million.
“We will be making it a monthly affair where we would be giving out some statistics in terms of the number of approvals that we have given for residential or building applications along with industrial and commercial applications,” she said.
“These are the approvals that we will be talking about and we will be giving you further background in terms of development applications that we have received from Western, Central and Northern divisions.”
Mrs Kumar said development continued to take place despite the uncertainty which still exists because of COVID-19.
“Today’s data will reveal that we have our investors with us despite the uncertainty related to COVID-19, they are still putting their money on the table and they do believe with their projects that it will happen so these are all good news and maybe next month I will share with you the building applications that we have received,” she added.
Mrs Kumar said last year the ministry approved 23 development projects which cost about $1.4 million.
