Tailevu’s 2020 title bid
LAST week Nadi came to Suva with one mission — to take away the Skipper Cup from Namosi and the Jetsetters did it despite playing with 14 players. This week at Prince Charles Park, the Jetsetters face an ever-improving Tailevu outfit which beat Naitasiri at Nakelo District School 24-19.
Tailevi wants to paint Prince Charles Park green and their fans are beaming with confidence and the Tailevu gang at Nabua Secondary School, led by Eleni Ikadroka, Lavenia Marama, Salote Saininaivalu, Miliana Lalakomacoi and Eparama Masivesi, wore green attire as part of their support for Tailevu as they expect Tailevu to fight tooth and nail and wrest the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy from Nadi.
In the other Skipper Cup matches, Nadroga and Naitasiri face relegated sides Lautoka and Namosi, while Suva takes on Namosi. Suva’s mission was to finish top of the Skipper Cup points table and the John Stewart side has accomplished this mission and now they’ll focus on hosting Namosi in the semis if Nadroga and Naitasiri win their matches. Ironically, Naitasiri is expected to finish second and host the Stallions in the other semi-final. The 2020 Skipper Cup has been exciting but as the season comes to an end, fans are in for a treat as Nadroga, Suva, Namosi and Naitasiri prepare for the semis. As I conclude, I congratulate Talei Thomas (FRU and former Fijian television personality) who has scored a record by becoming the Pacific’s first female rugby match commissioner. Talei has been doing a great job as a match commissioner in the Skipper Cup competition. All the best Talei and I hope to see you make it on the international stage!
