$5k gift from retail giant
RETAIL giant Jack’s of Fiji joined the chorus of major supporters for the fight against cancer by the Fiji Cancer Society with a contribution of $5000.
The company hosted members of the NGO yesterday in Nadi where they were acknowledged for their continued support.
Fiji Cancer Society West branch representative Margie Erbsleben said the contribution was important in their fight against the deadly disease.
“Any contribution to our cause is important, especially in 2020,” she said.
“We all know that business has been affected by the global pandemic, especially in the West and especially in Nadi.
“We have seen several shops that have closed down and there have been hotels closing and hours reduced.
“We have companies like ATS and
Jacks that have laid off their staff and most of them are at home. So the impact of the pandemic has been very evident.
“Yet, despite all of that, we have businesses that are still coming forward to support our work.”
She said while some had managed to find alternative income, the financial difficulties of the global pandemic was evident.
“Even the Votcity Flea Market has reduced in size considerably.
“We have people heavily dependent on their FNPF now and they are all struggling.
“So any financial boost that we get is very helpful. This is going to go a long way to replenish our funds at the Fiji Cancer Society.
“This disease, it does not stop for anyone. It’s always there even though we are facing COVID around the world so we will always continue with this fight.”
