- By SERAFINA SILAITOGA

AS the festival of lights approaches, a recycling company has pleaded with the community to incorporate waste care measures for the sake of protecting our environment.

Waste Recyclers Fiji (Pte) Ltd (WRFL) has urged those planning to get rid of recyclable waste from their homes to contact them for assistance.

Company consultant Amitesh Deo said Diwali was usually a time of massive clean-up campaigns.

“As we approach another year of the Diwali festivity, Waste Recyclers Fiji (Pte) Ltd would like to highlight the importance of incorporating recycling into our cleanup campaigns,” he said.

Mr Deo said over the past years, they had seen an influx of recyclables being thrown into dumpsites.

“This manner of handling waste needs to change,” he added.

“I think as a society, everyone needs to take more responsibility when it comes to environmental protection.”

He said there was a need for a change of mindset and behaviour when it came to dealing with waste and recyclables.

Mr Deo also encouraged business houses to play a more active role in promoting recycling.

The company, Mr Deo said, also welcomed municipal councils and stakeholders to work in solidarity to support the waste management needs of the nation and bring recycling as a top agenda item when it comes to relevant discussions and meetings.

“WRFL has provided recycling collection services for over 25 years and even during some very challenging times such as the political coups, natural disasters and the current pandemic.”

The company has offices in Suva and Lautoka with scheduled pick-up services from contracted clients throughout Viti Levu.

They could be contacted on 9921067, 3361055, 6668795.
