‘It was a typo error’

- By VISHAAL KUMAR

REGISTRAR of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem said an issue where a person donated in excess of the $10,000 limit to the FijiFirst party was a “typo error”.

He made the comment in a statement issued yesterday.

Mr Saneem said he completed verification of the list of donations of FijiFirst against bank statements and other financial disclosures submitted by the party.

He said on September

17, 2020, he uplifted all the receipt books from the party for the years 2015 to 2019 and obtained all the party bank statements and the verification process commenced on September 23.

Mr Saneem said during the verification exercise, he made enquires with FijiFirst in relation to one person having donated over the $10,000 limit “to which the party clarified that there was a typo error in the name and this has been noted in the publication of the lists”.

“The registrar has also sighted the receipt book record to verify the same,” he said.

Mr Saneem also said he made enquiries with the party in relation to donations from persons who appeared to be currently holding statutory board appointments to determine if there was a probable breach of law.

He said after verification, he determined the donations did not constitute any breach of electoral law.

“In a few cases, other persons of the same name had made donations to the party.”

Mr Saneem said the list of donations conformed to the requirements of the law.
