Agriculturist designs seedling storage facility
A NADI-BASED nursery has embarked on a project to keep vegetable and fruit seedlings safe during cyclones.
Bula Agro Enterprises has designed a disaster mitigation seedling storage facility for the upcoming cyclone season.
Veteran agriculturist and nursery owner Sant Kumar designed the container storage facility.
“The container is designed in such a way that it has sliding trays which can hold a lot of seedlings,” he said.
Mr Kumar said the capacity of the 20-foot container would allow for the storage of 80-100,000 seedlings if a 50-cell tray was used.
“This is one method of saving your seedlings and once the cyclone has passed, the farmer has to just pull out his seedlings and plant straight away.”
He said the project was made possible through Australian Aid who provided the funding to design the storage facility.
