Respect all religions
FURTHER to the letter of 16/11 from Wise Muavono, nature has much resemblances to gods and goddesses for those who have knowledge of Hinduism. Offering water to certain plants or offering leaves and flowers to gods and goddesses have been extremely significant which symbolise their relationship to gods and goddesses we worship.
These haven’t been derived from our forefathers but from countless scriptures dating back to millions of years.
To clarify, few examples are Ganges River which has strong significance to Hinduism as “Ganga Maiya”. Since she doesn’t exist in our country, the rivers here symbolise her. As we approach any, we bow and sprinkle water over us and chant “Jai Ganga Maiya” meaning “Hail Mother Ganges”.
Similarly, God has created Mother Earth or “Matra Bhumi” we bow as we step on. One dawn my iTaukei neighbour questioned why I bow to Mother Earth. I explained to my neighbour the answer was clear as Mother Earth provides food and shelter and nurtures her children like any mother.
COVID-19 has proved this as many have valued Mother Earth in our beloved nation.
Of course, all human beings must be respected as per Mr Muavono but not worshipped.
