The event is the gathering of the 13 district chiefs in the Lau Group.

Meet chairman Turaga na Roko Sau, Roko Josefa Cinavilakeba said the people of Lau had not received any dividends from the existing company, Yatu Lau.

He informed the Masi ni Vanua o Lau that it was time for a change and time to form a new company to protect their resources and benefit their people.

Roko Josefa said there had been a lot of frustration expressed about the Yatu Lau Company and the way it managed its affairs.

“The Yatu Lau Company was formed during the Bose Vanua ko Lau like this one and all the dividends are supposed to be shared among our people.

“It helps the parents for their children’s school fees and uniforms and soli ni yasana,” said Roko Josefa.

He said in seven years they had not received any dividends from the company.

Roko Josefa said this was unfortunate considering the Lauan people’s contribution to the soli ni yasana every year.
