Police make contact

- By ARIETA VAKASUKAWAQA

ACTING Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says investigators looking into a complaint made against Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in relation to a 1987 bombing incident have contacted an investigating officer in the 1987 bombing cases to determine whether the matter has already been dealt with in court.

He made the comment in a statement responding to a letter by Veronica Malani, expressing her concerns about the investigation process surrounding her complaint.

“While we do not wish to dwell too much on this issue, the investigating officers have been complying with necessary processes in communicating the progress of her investigation,” Mr Tudravu said.

“Investigators have communicated with the investigating officer in the 1987 bombing cases who confirmed investigating three bombing cases where two persons were subsequently charged and produced in court.

“Investigators are trying to determine if the report lodged by Mrs Malani is linked to the same allegations and reports lodged in 1987 since the matter was already investigated and dealt with in court.”

Mr Tudravu again called for patience and understanding as investigators needed time to compile and gather facts and evidence pertaining to the report. He said they could not rush the investigation process. “Investigations will not be swayed by speculation or comments against the investigation processes as we are mindful of our actions as it will ultimately impact the outcome of legal proceedings, if any.”
