IT company signs on to compliance framework

- By ABISHEK CHAND

JANTY Bondwell Ltd (Bondwell) has become the first IT retail company to sign on to the Voluntary Compliance Framework with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission.

According to a statement from the FCCC chief executive officer Joel Abraham this was part of the ongoing initiative to better comply with the FCCC Act 2010.

“We believe that the best way to ensure businesses are compliant and the rights of Fijian consumers are being protected is through a collaborative approach with businesses, which makes the participation of companies like very encouraging,” he said.

“The VCF is an excellent opportunity for proactive businesses to work with us to learn their role and responsibilities when it comes to compliance, and FCCC welcomes and invites any organisation that wants to sign up.

“Previously, many FCCC Act 2010 violations were due to an improper understanding of the law by traders and while this is not a legal defence, we believe this approach is more effective in the long run and benefits everyone.”

Mr Abraham had commended the companies for signing up, especially considering their reputation as operators focused in providing IT Services.

The VCF signing was said to include the branches in My FNPF Center, Greig St, Suva and Nadi - Martintar respectively and Bondwell understood the need for providing a consumerfriendly environment which the VCF was an integral part of.

FCCC stated the VCF was a set of guidelines to make sure that businesses complied with the FCCC act and operated fairly, without constant oversight by the commission and was introduced after noting low compliance levels.

“By coming forward and stepping up, they are serving examples to other traders in the field as to what can be achieved when we work together. And it genuinely benefits the business, as well — a happy customer base equals a blooming business,” he said.
